Most people know Thomas Freese through his ghost stories and books about ghosts in Kentucky and throughout the south, but he also makes jewelry. Sharing his Southwest heritage, Thomas has recently published information about his bead-making skills as well as his experience in crafting wood pins and earrings with his readers through his new book, Making Wood Jewelry Southwest Style.
Making Wood Jewelry Southwest Style is a fun guide to the step-by-step creation of simple wood jewelry projects. Thomas Freese shares how he works with wood, a substance that seems to glow with warmth as harvested and appreciated in natural, wood burned or brightly painted objects of art. From practical safety tips to best tools to use in this craft, Thomas discusses design concepts and shows many completed projects through photographs.
Making Wood Jewelry Southwest Style outlines the details and his appreciation of hand crafting in wood. Thomas Freese lived 11 years in Santa Fe, New Mexico and brings his experience as craftsman and teaching artist to share in the joys and practical tips of working with woods to wood burn, inlay stone eyes, re-saw exotic woods, use the rotary and belt sanders, create beads and more.
Thomas will share more of his tips and techniques at Karen’s Book Barn and Java Stop in La Grange, on May 14, Friday, at from 7-9 PM. He will sign his book as well as display his craft.
